Hi to all, We are still looking for Christmas Crafts, donated CD's etc for the 17th Dec gig (all proceeds in aid of SVP!) Thanks so much to everyone who has given up time and money to make crafts for the gig/craft fair so far. The lovely pics below are from Niamh Buckley who made the stockings. Independent's Day.

Some of the display at Independent's Day. Unfotunately I forgot my camera so only have two photos that Roisin Blade was nice enough to pass on!

I'm not making this small just cos I look deranged in it. It just won't change size! Honest!

Donations

For people who would like to donate a little something to add to what we are collecting, please do. Every cent that we get goes to SVP. All craft supplies and expeses paid for by whoever is making the crafts.

Thanks to all! €130 made at Independent's Day!

Thanks a million to everyone who made such an effort to come to Independent's Day today. People were so generous, it was fantastic. We made €130 all in aid of St. Vincent de Paul. We also had a brilliant day at Independent's Day, met loads of lovely people and bought a few bits and bobs!

Special thanks to Debbie Stone, Roisín Blade, Denise Quinlan and Cat Hughes for the amount of time and effort put in to making such lovely stuff and for helping out. It all sold out too! Your stuff was very popular! Thanks also to St Catherine's Home for Lazy Infants http://www.myspace.com/lazyinfants, The Hollows http://www.myspace.com/thehollowsie & At Last An Atlas http://www.myspace.com/atlastanatlas who donated albums to sell.

Thanks again to everyone. I appreciate it and your money will  be going to a really good charity. As you can see in today's Irish Times http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/1123/budget.html  There has been a 30% increase in requests for help from the SVP.

We will be organising a gig/craft fair on the Thurs 17th December and as we pretty much sold out of our stuff I'm going to be asking those who can, could they make more stuff! If you can of course! If not, hopefully see you all on the 17th of December! If anyone wants to help out again, in any way, please do!

Also, please tell me if I am becoming a bit sweat factoryish!

Make 'n' Do for St. Vincent de Paul

I'm hoping you'll be able to help a little fundraising for St. Vincent de Paul!

Greg & I are going to have a stall at Independence Day independentsdaydublin.blogspot.com/ on the 22nd of Nov where we will be selling stuff (DIY Xmas decorations, zines & CD's) with all proceeds to St. Vincent de Paul. Greg will also be gathering up CD's from independent artists and working out with them what percentage will go to SVP (we'll make sure everyone is informed).

We will be running a gig on 17th Dec in Anseo, selling crafts, CD's etc and all proceeds to SVP

For this I'm hoping people could make their own decorations to donate to the pile. Of course if you have any zines yourself you could add them also. Anything DIY really!

If anyone can help in any way, it really would be appreciated. SVP is an amazing charity, one that I come into contact with in my job (as Youth Information Officer) quite often. I have seen SVP give education grants to people who would in no way be able to go to college otherwise, I've seen them directly help single mothers who are down to their last few euro, or make sure a family is fed when the social welfare is taking ages to be processed... they basically act as a safety net for people who need emergency financial support or people who fall outside the care of the state, for whatever reason. I have seen SVP help people throughout the "boom" but now their services are seriously stretched with the bust. In Dublin there has been an increase of 32% of people who were generally asking for food vouchers and help with energy bills. One-in-four callers had never asked for help before.

The prices for the decorations will start low for the smaller items so that hopefully everyone will be able to afford them. If you are stretched yourself, why not try make some decorations or give people who are making them a hand. Even passing on this link will help.

I am going to start putting up pictures of products that I and others are making and adding a paypal button so people can buy them here.

Let me know if you want to help and in what way.
